Heading to breakfast at Granger & Co

Those lucky enough to live in Notting Hill have two of the best breakfast options in London on their doorstep: Granger & Co on Westbourne Grove and Ottolenghi a mere 100 metres from that on Ledbury Road.

We've been in Notting Hill for a week now and are well on the way to being regulars.

Granger & Co is where you go to be seen, to network and soak up the atmosphere. The staff are all friendly and gorgeous in blue linen shirts, shiny hair and skinny jeans and the cafe is constantly packed. The standouts at breakfast are rich scrambled eggs, perfect lattes and the friendly but refined atmosphere.

Ottolenghi around the corner is less predictable but always amazing. There are seasonal salads, decadent brownies and plates of cupcakes. This place is better for dropping by to pick up some great treats rather than have a long breakfast or lunch. But if you do come in for breakfast the standout is the croissant, taken at their communal table, with soft salted butter and rhubarb, passionfruit and raspberry jams.

For hot chocolate connoisseurs though there really is only one choice. Ottolenghi has the ultimate hot chocolate. At G & C they do melted callebaut chocolate in frothy milk, but as Morag said, for all the effort put into it, it tastes like drinking warm milk with occasional globs of chocolate in it.

Ultimately, though, there's no need to choose a favourite. You're winning at either of these places!
